Quality Door Locks - Schlage Custom

When shopping for new home good items, it pays to understand when it’s worth saving and when it’s worth the splurge.

When shopping for new home good items, it pays to understand when it’s worth saving and when it’s worth the splurge. Take coffeemakers for example. If we use them every day, it might be worth paying a little extra for a model that not only is going to last but also will save you time and money in the long run. If your coffeemaker turns out to be sub-par, you’ll ultimately end up spending more on a replacement or by heading to the coffee shop. So much for savings.

What does this have to do with door hardware?

You won’t want to give up coffee cold turkey because your at-home maker isn’t up to snuff, nor will you stop wanting to lock your doors for the same reason. Do your research and think about the following factors when considering the move up to the next tier of locks and door hardware. They might make you re-think defaulting to the lowest price.

Quality door locks - Eller Lever - Schlage Custom

    Durability

You’re going to use your locks every day, and it’s important that they work every time. With Schlage, you can be assured that not only will your locks and door hardware last for years to come - reducing the need for frequent replacements - but they’ll also help protect your home throughout their lifespan.

Nearly all of Schlage’s mechanical hardware and electronic deadbolts, levers and knobs are rated best in security, durability and finish by BHMA. Testing shows that our hardware is resistant to the toughest environmental and weather conditions, and levers hold up under heavy weight, so you know you’re covered when a child hangs on them. Premium metal construction also provides a quality you can actually feel.

Our smart locks also feature the same type of encryption used in online purchases and built-in alarm technology to consistently protect what’s most important to you.

Similar products: Toilet plungers and car tires. You probably won’t find out that they aren’t working until it’s already a problem. And you definitely don’t want that.

    Style

You’re going to look at your door hardware every day. Front-door locks and hardware are some of the first things guests will see, so you might want something visually appealing that also matches the style of your home. Schlage Custom™ Door Hardware features architecturally-inspired designs that reflect your unique taste. With our collection of styles and finishes, the possibilities offer a whole new dimension of personal style to your home.

Smart locks like Schlage Sense™ Smart Deadbolt and Schlage Connect™ Smart Deadbolt come in a variety of styles and finishes as well, making it easier than ever to coordinate your hardware from your front door to the back porch and everywhere in between.

Similar products: A good blazer and hair dye. Just like quality door hardware, these are simple ways to elevate your style by changing what people see first and most.

    Simplicity

Installing your door hardware and locks, not to mention using them on a regular basis, should be easy. Most of our door hardware requires just a screwdriver for installation, and with our patented Snap & Stay technology, there’s no need to juggle components and tools at the same time.

Schlage smart locks are also battery-operated, eliminating the need for hardwiring or calling an electrician during installation.

Using your lock should be easy, too. Storing multiple access codes, locking and unlocking your door remotely from anywhere, and monitoring access through an app are just some of the hallmarks of Schlage simplicity. If ease is a high priority for you, this might be one reason to increase your investment.

Similar product: Home delivery. How often have you paid a little extra for the pizza or groceries to be brought directly to your front door, just for the ease and convenience?

    Support

When you have a question about your locks or door hardware, you shouldn’t have to go on a wild goose chase for answers. We put solutions at your fingertips with online support ranging from frequently asked questions to installation and user guides, templates and more.

Similar product: Food service. When wait staff is attentive, friendly and knowledgeable, you know you’ll get the dining experience you deserve.

“You get what you pay for” is cliché for a reason. Confidence in getting what you want from your locks and door hardware might be worth the investment to you, particularly when it comes to the safety, simplicity and style of Schlage. For continued help and support in your door lock buying journey, be sure to reach out to us on Twitter or Facebook for help.

Smart lock - Wink - Schlage Connect
Powered by Z-Wave® technology, the Schlage Connect™ Smart Deadbolt is a versatile smart lock that works with most smart home and alarm systems, including Wink. With easy installation and programming right at your fingertips, this smart lock provides utility out of the box but when paired with a compatible smart home hub, you can unlock even more convenient and advanced security features. Here are eight features you can expect when you pair your Schlage Connect lock with a Wink smart home hub.

    1. Remote access

Lock or unlock your door no matter where you are in the world. Because the Schlage Connect is powered by Z-wave, you need to pair it with a smart home hub, like Wink, to extend communication with your home’s wi-fi. This allows you to communicate with your lock via the Wink app when you are remote.

    2. Receive alerts

Get instant notifications whenever the door is unlocked. Whether it’s peace of mind knowing your kids arrived home on time or keeping tabs on your housekeeper, alerts keep you in-the-know on who’s coming and going from your home throughout the day.

    3. Control built-in alarm

Enable or disable the Schlage Connect’s built-in alarm when activity is detected at the door . Instead of changing your alarm settings through the lock itself, Wink makes it even easier to have full control of all the features Schlage Connect has to offer.

    4. Easy programming

Add, delete and name user codes from the Wink app. Instead of manually keeping track of all the codes you’ve activated for your lock, Wink makes it simple to get a glimpse of all programmed access codes and allows you to deactivate or change them as needed.

    5. Set reminders

Wink can also give you a reminder to remove codes when they are no longer needed . You will still need to go through the steps to delete the access code through the app but reminders give you peace of mind that you won’t forget a code that is no longer needed after a certain period of time making it even easier to manage and maintain multiple codes.

    6. Connect your smart lock with other products

Smart homes are most convenient when all your products are working together. If you have other devices connected to your Wink hub, you can set up a Robot so that one action triggers a series of others – like unlocking your front door after 6pm turns the light in your entryway on. Just note that for optimal security, you cannot use the Robot to unlock your deadbolt. Follow the Wink blog to stay up-to-date with added features and get inspired for new smart home routines.

    7. Create shortcuts

Both iOS and Android users can enable Wink widgets on their phone to access smart home scenes through the notification center (iPhone) or home screen (Android). This makes it easy to trigger an automation series you use often, like a Goodnight shortcut to power down all your smart devices and lock your doors.

    8. Pair your Schlage Connect with Amazon Alexa

Command your Schlage Connect to lock or unlock or check the status of your lock when you pair your Schlage Connect with Amazon Alexa via Wink. Get all the details on what Schlage Connect and Amazon Alexa can do here.

To make this all work, you’ll just need a Wink Hub or Wink Hub 2, Wi-Fi connection and an iOS or Android smartphone device. Visit wink.com to learn how to pair your smart lock with the Wink smart home hub and be sure to reach out to use on Facebook or Twitter with any questions.

After 50 years, the clean, sleek, distinctive look of Mid-Century Modern has been making a comeback. But to Amy Matthews, Contractor, DIY Designer extraordinaire and TV host, it never really went away. And there’s a good reason for that. Mid-century modern style is all about simplicity and functionality. At its core, it’s about stripping things down to basic design, bare elements and the inclusion of natural elements and textures offset by touches of bold color and contrast. There’s a timelessness to it which has made it so unique since its heyday in the 1950s and 1960s.
Mid-century Modern - Door Hardware - Eller Lever - Schlage Custom

Mid-century modern was the direction Amy chose for creating an entire design around a single piece of Schlage door hardware – the Eller lever. In the second installment of her four-part series in which she creates imaginative mood boards in this fashion, Amy took her inspiration from the soft, simple lines of the Eller lever to design a mid-century modern masterpiece.

The Eller lever features a distinctive silhouette and a decidedly modern style with the brushed nickel finish serving as a contemporary highlight in contrast to the wood, stone and period touches that Amy selected.

It’s minimalist style to the max. And if you’ve watched Mad Men, you know the look. We think you will love Amy’s take on this iconic era of interior design.

Mid-century Modern - Amy Matthews - Schlage Custom

    The inspiration

Schlage's Eller lever was created to be mainstream enough to work in a variety of contemporary to transitional settings. Its soft, curving Scandinavian design and clean precision make it the ideal starting point for building a range of modernist looks. The Eller also pairs with a number of available trims and finishes which allow for versatility in design. Talk about open possibilities. According to Amy, she really "jives" on this particular look.

Mid-century Modern - Mood Board - Schlage Custom Eller Lever

The mood board: authentic, clean and all-natural

Starting with the Eller lever, Amy embraced the challenge of designing the mood board around the door hardware. She wanted immediate contrast with the rich, natural wood of the door and its ruddy texture. She also wanted to juxtapose the brushed nickel and modernity of the lever with warm hues and patterns. This was reflected by Schlage designers in the furniture stylings, the simplicity of the dark gray, textured tile flooring as well as the warm, inviting colors chosen for room accessories and appointments. The outcome was clean, modern, natural and truly inspired.

    The look: modern and sleek

Amy’s mood board carefully considered the entire aesthetic of the room. She built the mood board around the Schlage Custom Eller lever and paired it with a rich, natural wooden door. She wanted to really pull out the contrasts afforded by the naturalness of the wood, contrasting colors like pale green and dark gray with the brushed metal finish of the Eller lever (the only metal in the room). Other accent colors like corals and reds were included in the geometric accent patterns in the pillows, rug and other accessories.

Mid-century Modern - Eller Lever - Schlage Custom

    The name says it all

One system. Endless possibilities. Whether replacing outdated or broken locks, remodeling a single room or simply adding new, decorative details, Schlage Custom Door Hardware makes personalizing a single room–or an entire home–as simple and easy as can be. It’s perfect for tailoring door hardware designs to the specific needs of every room.

One screwdriver is all it takes to customize the style, finish and even functionality of Schlage Custom door hardware. A small locking pin lets you customize the door’s locking function to your needs. And a wide range of designer knobs, levers, complementary trims and long-lasting and lustrous finishes deliver a whole new level of versatility in both style and function.

If you're thinking about a single-room update, or even a whole-home renovation, one of the quickest, easiest and most affordable things you can do is update your door hardware.

According to a recent Houzz survey, home renovations are on the rise, with 2017 yielding significant growth and 2018 expected to be even bigger. If you’re among those who are thinking about a single-room update, or even some manner of whole-home renovation, one of the quickest, easiest and most affordable things you can do is update your door hardware.

Updating your home’s door hardware is a project that can be easily customized to fit your project’s needs, regardless of your design concept or installation preferences. And best of all, it can be done affordably for any budget! With Schlage door hardware, whether you’re replacing a builder-grade doorknob with custom hardware or a keyed entrance door lock with a keyless smart lock, you can tackle this project in your spare time with just a screwdriver.

Going for a coordinated interior? Looking to blend a number of complementary styles? Are you exploring split finishes, giving each room its own, singular look? Whatever your preference, Schlage offers a wide range of simple, secure, stylish and affordable hardware options to fit your budget. Door hardware - $100 Budget - Schlage

SOLUTIONS IN THE $100 PRICE RANGE

For nearly a century, Schlage has been perfecting the door lock, offering an assortment of both mechanical and electronic door locks that have set industry standards for performance and style.

    Exterior

For around $100, you can replace your entry door lock choosing from a wide selection of deadbolts, knobs, levers and complete handlesets. In this price range, you can also upgrade a mechanical deadbolt, replacing it with a stylish, keyless electronic keypad lock or deadbolt to enjoy the industry’s highest residential security rating with the convenience of keyless access.

    Interior

As for your interior doors, that same $100 or so can replace upwards of 4 interior traditional door knobs or levers, depending upon function and the specific styles and finishes you choose.

When shopping for interior door hardware, it’s important to take things like trim, knob or lever style and finish into consideration. Premium decorative trims and styles could drive up the price of your interior hardware.

Another important consideration when shopping for interior hardware is the warranty. Because you will touch your interior door hardware several times per day, it’s important to look for quality hardware from a company that offers a warranty of some kind. Schlage offers a limited lifetime mechanical & finish warranty and limited 3-year electronics warranty.

Fall - Front Porch - Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt

It’s time to spruce-up your front porch to prepare for the holidays. Get our tips for the best fall front porch that will easily transition to winter.

Summer is out and fall is in. It’s time to give your front porch the spruce-up it’s been waiting for to prepare for the holidays. From simple home improvement to creative home décor, the opportunities to make a welcoming statement with your entryway are endless.

Fall - Front Porch - Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt

Image from Lark & Linen featuring Schlage Sense Smart Deadbolt paired with Century front entry handle in Matte Black

    The first impression

With temperatures still relatively warm, yet no longer sweltering hot, it’s a great time to take on some outdoor projects. Consider giving your front door a fresh coat of paint. Pick from bright colors to give it an extra punch for the season. Vibrant reds, oranges and blues are among Pantone’s favorite hues for the fall and winter.

While you’re at it, update your door’s style with new accessories, including house numbers and coat hooks. Because when was the last time you hosted a cool-weather get-together and said, “I have too many coat hooks”?

    Cold weather hospitality

Don’t leave your guests standing out in bad weather, either. By installing a smart lock, you can give each guest a code instead of hiding a key under the mat. The Schlage Sense™ Smart Deadbolt and Schlage Connect™ Smart Deadbolt can be programmed with up to 30 different access codes and work with a variety of smart home systems like Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

    Fall classics

Showcase your fall creativity with home décor, too. Incorporating pumpkins on your porch is always a winner, regardless of whether you leave them orange for an extra pop of color, paint them to match a monochromatic design or let the family carve them for a touch of fun.

HGTV.com highlights metallic elements as an increasingly popular way to catch the eye of passers-by. A copper jug, either brand new and shiny or with an aged patina, can add a touch of glitter as well as hold your favorite fall foliage. It’s a great way to mix and match textures as well as color.

    Cozy details

Continue playing with textures by replacing the cushions on your patio furniture or adding an outdoor rug. Think outside the box and hang with some outdoor curtains to create a cozy nook, perfect for a private cup of tea and leaf peeping from the porch.

Of course, the sun is setting earlier, so don’t forget the lights. Set, or create, the mood with a new outdoor lighting system. Houzz suggests flameless candles for creating a safe and relaxing escape, while a strand of twinkle lights will seamlessly carry you into the winter.

    Budget-friendly curb appeal

If time and budget are concerns, especially with the holidays approaching, consider options that will let you change your porch’s look with minimal investment. Choose a wreath that can switch from Thanksgiving to winter by simply swapping out a few floral elements. Containers with your typical garden plants can go from Halloween to winter wonderland by replacing the pumpkin next to the regular plantings with an artificial snowman. Follow Schlage on Pinterest for plenty of inspiration.

No matter how you choose to update your curb appeal for fall, remember that it’s also a time to enjoy family, friends and festivity. Trying some of these simple tips will help make it an attractive, and stress-free, season for all.
