You should see an alert that a firmware update is available. If you do not - or if you opt to update at a later time - tap the Settings (gear icon) in the Schlage Sense app, select Lock Information and tap Firmware Version.

Updating the firmware on your lock should only take 15-20 minutes. The following tips will help you troubleshoot should you run in to any difficulties while updating your lock's firmware.

  • Your phone's Bluetooth must be turned on.

  • The phone must remain within Bluetooth range (40 feet) of the lock.

  • If the firmware does not finish within 15-20 minutes, cancel (go back) the firmware update, the app may be attempting to update the lock through an Apple TV. You can force the firmware update to use Bluetooth by turning Airplane Mode on, turn Bluetooth on, and restart the firmware update.

If you are having trouble connecting to the lock with the Schlage Sense app, try the following:

  1. Turn your phone's Bluetooth on.

  2. Disconnect and reconnect the lock's batteries -- then attempt to connect again.

  3. If this is not successful, reboot your iPhone (or iPad or iPod touch) -- then attempt to connect again.

If the steps above are not successful, factory reset your lock and pair with your phone again with the following steps:

  1. Disconnect the lock's batteries.

  2. Press and hold the Schlage button on the lock's touchscreen.

  3. Reconnect the lock's batteries.

  4. Release the Schlage button on the lock's touchscreen.

  5. Observe the lock's touchscreen flashing the green check. This is confirmation that the factory reset was successful.

  6. You will need to delete lock from the Schlage Sense app by tapping the home name, Manage Homes, select the home, EDIT, and delete the lock. If the Schlage Sense app is displaying the introductory screen, try deleting the lock from the Apple Home app (tap and hold the lock > details > remove accessory).

  7. Return to the Schlage Sense app main screen and add a new lock (top right corner).

I can't update the firmware. It connects, starts the download, and then errors out with this message: "Firmware failed to be sent to lock. Please try again later." Advice?

Same here. I have 4 of these locks and one of them fails to update. The message on the phone reads 'failed to send firmware to lock'. This message appears about 15 seconds after the update starts, and the lock beeps when the update begins. I have tried resetting the lock multiple times to factory settings. I have also tried two different iPhones.

Seems to be a good solution and works.
This lock will not update. I've deleted it several times and still get the update error.
I am having problems updating the firmware. I had tried all the thing above and still the same problem: when updating after few minute, a message is prompt says that the firmware couldn't be sent to the lock. This is a mayor issue because I can't use the HomeKit feature. PLEASE A SOLUTION
Terrible product

Do not buy
Your iPhone App doesn’t work for firmware updates. After the update which the App says is successful the lock becomes undectable.
The only way to fix this is to delete the lock in the App (also problematic) and re-enter the Home Kit
ID which is not present on the lock anywhere so if you don’t have the original documentation you’re
then SOL. The lock itself works great, but your iPhone App is totally piss poor, difficult to use, and
totally problematic, you need to fire your iPhone developer and the individual who did the UI for
this piss poor App.
